This week

Maths:
. This week Year 2 have worked on the 2, 5 and 10 timestables. They are confident with working out the answer when it is written, however they need to continue to work on recall at home as well as at school. This can be done on the way to school, in the car, whilst on a walk or by following the following links:
We have now started counting forwards and backwards in 3s. Follow the following link to trial this at home!
Only if you are confident with your 2s, 5s and 10s try the 3s!
These are an excellent way for your child to confidently recall their tables!
English:
.Our sound this week will be –i_e
There are 3 different ways of spelling our –i_e sound. They are:
  • i_e   Rhyme: nice smile
  • igh   Rhyme: fly high
  • ie    Rhyme: terrible tie
When the children are writing and use this sound, they should use the rhymes to help them remember which spelling of the sound they need to use.
Optional homework (This can be handed in to school in the clear, plastic homework folder)
Make a list of words with the spelling ie, i_e and igh.
Challenge
Write 10 sentences including words with i_e, igh and ie.
If you can, include adjectives!
Slime, Fine, Time, Whine, Pine, Nice, Inside, Outside, Sunshine are some examples of words with our sound of the week.
Please continue to work with your children on the sounds below ensuring they are confident with the sounds and the rhymes:

In SPAG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) we will continue to focus on verbs, looking at the present and past simple.

. Reading comprehension
This week in reading we focused on inference in writing. We read the text and used the clues in the writing to reach our answer. On Friday, your child will receive homework to reinforce their learning from this.
Topic
This week the children created posters about a given continent. They worked In partners and researched information about their continent. Year two focused very carefully on their presentation of their poster and then presented it to the rest of the class. The posters will be up in the classroom next week if you want to have a look!
